Principal Engineering Manager at Microsoft
I’ve been enjoying software design and development for 20+ years. And another 15+ years as a manager for amazing teams. My adventures include software from the client to the cloud, from the Windows operating system to Microsoft Azure.
Most recently I have built a cutting-edge Azure service for Exploratory Data Analytics on big data. My goal has been simple – “Make Data Easy”. This includes query, visualization, dashboarding, search/discovery and data movement experiences. This was an internal Microsoft service which grew to 10K+ (~10% of MS employees) users in 2 years. The tool grew virally, with customers including teams in Azure, Windows, Office, Xbox and PowerBI.
For the Windows operating system, I have contributed many technologies in the multimedia space, from Windows 98 to Windows 8.1. This includes Media Foundation which is the core multimedia API for Windows. I was one of the original members of the Media Foundation team, involved in implementing and architecting many basic components and concepts. I had led efforts which ported this API to all MS platforms – Windows, Windows Phone and the Xbox. I had also architected many core pieces of Windows Media Player. If you have ever listened to CDs on a PC, it probably went through my code. PlayTo was another space I have worked on. PlayTo was touted as one of the top 10 features in Windows 8 by various reviews on Windows 8 launch.
These are some of the highlights of my adventures over time. The entire list could span a few coffees. The beauty of the software industry is that there are always new opportunities to make a positive impact on the world around us and work with brilliant minds to make things happen.

Title: From Oops to Ops: Incident Response with Notebooks
Description :
What if you can apply software engineering practices to your troubleshooting guides (TSGs) / playbook / runbook for your team’s on-call? What if you can reduce stress and mistakes in your incident response workflow?
Join this session to learn more about TSG Ops framework, where we revolutionize how Database Administrators and Data Engineers can be more effective and feel empowered during incident response. We will share some of our learnings and our journey on implementing TSG Ops, which is based on Jupyter Notebooks. We’ll show how TSG Ops in Azure Data Studio makes incident response for SQL Server (on-prem) and Azure SQL much easier. We’ll show case how you can use Notebooks with your favorite languages, from SQL to KQL, from PowerShell to Python, and all the way to .net interactive, providing you most flexibility.
